Bana Grass – Clumping – Fast Growing – Many Uses
Bana Grass, Pennisetum purpureum x americanum
Bana grass is a clumping and very fast-growing perennial grass. It can reach over 4 m in height within a few months. It can be grown as an ornamental plant with many uses like:
- windbreak
- hedge
- fodder for cows, goats, sheep, pigs, birds
- mulch
- organic matter for compost production
Planting and growing tips:
- Dig a 10cm deep trench, place the cuttings in, and cover with soil. You can plant them horizontally, diagonally, or straight up. Make sure that at least one nod is in the soil.Keep the soil moist until the grass establishes and starts to grow.
- Watering straight after planting is essential! From then on, regular watering until the plant establishes is highly recommended.
- It doesn’t like to sit in water so a well-drained position is best. All our edibles grow happily and quickly in slightly raised garden beds.
- Harvest the young leaves as required or let the plant grow to the desired height
- Bana grass grows best in full sun and half shade and in any type of soil, however, the better the soil, the quicker and better your plants will grow.
