Planting & Growing Tips

  • Initial Care: Upon arrival, give your plant a good drink and place it in a partially shaded, sheltered spot. Allow it to recover from its journey in the original pot for a few days before transplanting.

  • Transplanting: Re-pot or plant into the garden when roots begin to emerge from the drainage holes. Water thoroughly immediately after planting.

  • Position: Thrives in a warm, partially shaded spot with well-drained, fertile soil. It will not tolerate waterlogged conditions, so a slightly raised garden bed is ideal.

  • Versatility: Grows excellently in a garden bed or a large pot/grow bag, making it perfect for patios and balconies.

  • Seasonal Cycle: This herbaceous perennial will die back in winter. This is your sign that the rhizomes are ready for harvest! The plant will regrow from rhizomes left in the ground when the weather warms in spring.

Additional Notes

  • Sun Acclimatisation: Our nursery plants are grown in partial shade. For the healthiest transition, gradually introduce them to more sun over several days before planting them in their permanent position.

  • Harvesting Tip: For a continuous supply, you can harvest rhizomes and leaves as needed, always leaving a portion of the plant in the ground to regenerate.

  • Disclaimer: As with any new food or medicinal herb, we recommend you research before consumption. Please also see the full disclaimer in the footer of this page.
