Large Oval Celadon Eggplant Plant (Solanum melongena) – Untreated & Heirloom

Discover our rare, non-bitter variety! This heirloom eggplant is non-GMO, non-hybrid, open-pollinated, and grown organically without chemical treatment.

A longtime favorite of ours, this variety produces large, oval fruits year-round. The entire fruit is usable—its skin is wonderfully thin, and it contains very few seeds, with no bitter aftertaste. It’s also highly nutritious, offering an excellent source of phenolic acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

This hardy, short-lived perennial thrives in subtropical and tropical climates. In cooler parts of Australia, it can be successfully grown in a pot and protected from frost during winter.

The price is for one small plant, but we also have seeds available here.

Planting & Growing Tips
  • Initial Care: Upon arrival, give your plant a good drink and place it in a wind-protected, partially shaded spot. Allow it to acclimatise in its original pot for a few days before transplanting.

  • Transplanting: Re-pot or plant into the garden when you see roots beginning to emerge from the drainage holes. Water thoroughly immediately after planting.

  • Position: This eggplant prefers partial shade and well-drained soil to avoid waterlogging. It adapts to many soil types but will grow faster and more vigorously in richer soil. Slightly raised garden beds are ideal.

  • Versatility: It grows equally well in a garden bed or a container.

Additional Notes
  • Sun Acclimatisation: Our plants are grown in semi-shade. For healthiest growth, gradually introduce them to more sun before moving them to their final, permanent position.

  • Disclaimer: As with any new food, we recommend you research before consumption. Please also see the full disclaimer in the footer of this page.
