Planting and Growing Tips for Beetroot Ruby Queen:

  • Sunlight: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in hot climates. Shade from the west during intense summer afternoons can prevent bolting and stress.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Avoid waterlogged conditions, as beetroots dislike sitting in water.
  • Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Mulching can help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
  • Raised Beds: Grows exceptionally well in slightly raised garden beds, which improve drainage and soil warmth.
  • Spacing: Sow seeds 2-3 cm deep, spacing them 5-10 cm apart to allow room for root development. Soil temperature 10-30°C over 5-10 days. Germination ~5-10 days, maturity ~55-70 days
  • Temperature: A hardy plant that grows best in cooler temperatures but can adapt to warmer conditions with adequate shade and water.

Additional notes:

  • Beetroot Ruby Queen is delicious both raw and cooked, perfect for juicing, canning, preserving, fermenting, and adding to smoothies. Thinning during the growing season is recommended—remove larger plants to give smaller ones space to expand. Use the immature beetroots and their nutrient-rich leaves in salads, soups, and smoothies.
