Sowing & Germination Tips

  • Freshness is Key: Coffee seeds lose viability quickly. For the best results, sow them as soon as possible after receiving them.

  • Preparation: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing. Discard any that float.

  • Sowing: Sow seeds about 1-2 cm deep in a moist, well-draining seed-raising mix. A warm, consistently moist environment is crucial for germination.

  • Germination: Place the pot in a warm spot (20-25°C) with bright, indirect light. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Germination can be slow and irregular, taking from 4 weeks to several months.

  • After Germination: Once seedlings have a few sets of true leaves, they can be carefully transplanted into individual pots.

Growing Onwards – Planting Tips

  • Position: Prefers bright, indirect light and rich, moist, well-draining soil. It will not tolerate waterlogged conditions.

  • Climate: This plant is frost-sensitive. Provide protection from cold winds and frost. It adapts very well to life in a large pot indoors.

  • Patience is a Virtue: Growing from seed is a test of patience. It can take 3-5 years for a seedling to mature and produce its first flowers and fruit.

Additional Notes

  • A Rewarding Journey: While it takes time, growing a coffee plant from seed is an incredibly fulfilling and educational experience.

  • Disclaimer: As with any new food, we recommend you research before consumption. Please also see the full disclaimer in the footer of this page. Germination and growth success depend on local conditions and gardening practices.
