Description

Pigeon pea is a very quick-growing edible perennial. It can grow up to 2m within one season. You can grow it into a small tree or trim it to a hedge. The green peas are edible raw and you can freeze them as well. You can also store the ripe dry peas and cook a delicious soup with them. The plant is a great nitrogen fixer for your garden soil and very good food for chickens and other animals.

Planting and growing tips: Placing the seeds in water for 24 hours before putting them into the soil will speed up the germination process. Pigeon Pea is an easy-to-grow plant, that loves the sun and moderate watering, however, the better the soil, the quicker and better it will grow. It doesn’t like to sit in water so a well-drained position is best. All our edibles grow happily and quickly in slightly raised garden beds. The first peas should form within a couple of months or later after sowing, depending on the growing conditions.
