Cassava PLANT – Heirloom – Yellow Sweet Cassava – Manioc – Yuca – Manihot esculenta – The Ultimate Potato Substitute
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is incredibly easy to grow and highly drought-tolerant once established. It thrives in both full sun and partial shade. This particular variety is the “sweet cassava,” which, according to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), is the only type permitted for culinary use in Australia and New Zealand. Therefore, it’s essential to source your plants from a reliable grower.
The Yellow Sweet Cassava is an excellent potato substitute, perfect for making chips, fries, flour, and starch. The young leaves are also edible once boiled thoroughly (for at least 15 minutes) and are a delicious addition to soups and curries.
