Planting and growing tips: The Beetroot Ruby Queen is a hardy plant, that loves the sun and moist soil, however, the better the soil, the quicker and better it will grow. It doesn’t like to sit in water so a well-drained position is best. All our edibles grow happily and quickly in slightly raised garden beds. I have a very good experience with growing this beetroot in half-shade during the hot summertime, with shade coming from the west.

Additional notes:

  • delicious raw and cooked, and perfect for juicing, canning, preserving, fermenting, and in smoothies
  • thinning out during the growing season is recommended. I always take out the larger plants to make space for the smaller ones to expand and use the immature beetroots including leaves in salads, soups, and smoothies
  • plants space ~5-8cm, row space ~30-50cm, sowing depth ~15-20mm, germination soil temperature 10-30 °C over 5-10 days
